Santander City Guide And Airport Transfer Service

Santander is the capital of the Cantabria region and is located on the north coast of Spain not far from Bilbao and a bit further from San Sebastián. Santander is a great place to spend a long weekend at the beach, and it's especially close to the stunning La Magdalena Peninsula, which is noted for its craggy landscape. Mornings and evenings are cool due to the wind, but afternoons are pleasant enough to spend basking in the sun on the beach. It has a coastline full of beaches and historical sites that are worth visiting.

Best time to visit Santander

Santander has fairly erratic average temperatures. Humidity-wise, the weather is pleasant for the most part of the year, with the exception of a few chilly weeks in winter, and there is a risk of precipitation (both rain and snow) for the vast majority of the year. In terms of favorable weather, the location ranks in the 47th percentile of all tourist hotspots globally. The hottest months to visit Santander are August, July, and September. Early August is often the hottest period of the year, with highs around 74.1°F (23.4°C) and lows rarely dipping below 63.6°F (17.6°C).

Santander, Spain sees the most visitors in the months of July and August, followed by the month of March. These months have the highest hotel rates and travel costs, but if you book in advance you can save money. In November, Santander sees very few tourists. If you're flexible with your travel dates, this is probably the cheapest month to visit.

Train

Santander is also home to an impressive railway network, allowing day trippers to travel around Cantabria and beyond in just a short space of time. Since Santander is at the end of a national rail route, RENFE trains travel to far-flung locations in the south of Spain. RENFE provides service between Madrid and Valladolid. To reach destinations to the east and west of Santander, you can hop aboard a regional FEVE train bound for Bilbao or Oviedo. New high-speed rail lines connecting Madrid to a number of popular sites have helped alleviate some of the previous difficulties in finding fast trains in Spain.

Bus

Transportation by bus or coach is widely used in Spain since the country's highways provide access to virtually anywhere in the country, whereas the country's rail network is both less extensive and less convenient. The cities of Barcelona, Bilbao, Burgos, Leon, Madrid, Oviedo, Palencia, and Salamanca can all be reached by bus from Santander. The city's public bus service runs throughout the city every 15 minutes. Stops at Plaza de Italia and Piquo Gardens (Jardines de Piquo) are made along the route from the municipal hall (Ayuntamiento) to the El Sardinero beaches by buses 1, 4, 7, 9, 13, and 14. The RENFE train station is connected to the beach of El Sardinero by bus route number 15. If you are planning to use the city bus transport extensively, then do consider purchasing a book of ten tickets (Bonobus) from a local Tabaco shop.

The bus stations for the airport are conveniently positioned right outside the terminal's arrivals door. From here, you may get a bus to Santander and other nearby cities. Every half an hour, buses from the airport and the Santander city center bus station (Estación de autobuses) depart for the city of Alsa, which is serviced by the "Transporte de Cantabria / Alsa City" Bus Service. It takes roughly 15 minutes to get there. The bus driver sells single-ride tickets for €2.90; children under 4 ride free. The bus service begins at 06:30 and ends at 23:00 daily. In Santander, adults must pay €1.30 to ride the city buses of 'Transportes Urbanos de Santander,' but kids under the age of three rides free.
