Las Palmas City Guide And Private Taxi Services

As the capital of Gran Canaria's island, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria provides sunshine, beaches, and an extraordinary historical legacy. The pleasant year-round climate contributes to the city's rich cultural diversity. Because it is only 90 miles from the coast of Africa and has had a colonial past, the aboriginal Guanche culture has a unique blend of European, American, and African influences.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is an important city in the eastern province of the Canary Islands. Throughout the island, palms provide a tropical feel to the cobblestone alleys. In the winter, the average temperature is 17 degrees Celcius, while in the summer it is 25 degrees Celcius. You can get there in less than two and a half hours from Madrid, four hoursfrom major European cities, and six hours from North America by flying into the International Airport of Gran Canaria. It's a 20-minute drive.

Bus

The Global blue buses run between Santa Cruz and Las Palmas. The bright yellow buses in Las Palmas are known as Guaguas, which are pronounced ‘wah-wahs’ because the g is silent in Spanish and they're the best in the archipelago and among the best in Spain. Las Palmas is served by bus routes 1, 5, 11, 60, and 91, which all depart from the airport. The #60 & #91 Global buses are the airport city express lines. All airport/city buses travel to either of the main city bus stations of San Telmo Park (central near Vugueta/Triana) or Santa Catalina Park (further north near the port/marina & main city beach of Las Canteras). The airport/city buses run approximately every 30 minutes all day and night. Normally, the express lines run from 06:15 until 20:50. Depending on the route and time of day, a one-way airport-city bus ticket costs between €2.80 and €4.00. Express lines #60 & #91 travel is the cheapest at €2.80 per person per trip. Luggage storage is available under the bus on global interisland buses. On Global buses, standing is prohibited, whereas, on City buses, it is permitted. You must wait for the next bus if there is no room on the current one.

Taxi

Another option in Las Palmas is to catch a taxi. There is always a trip meter so you know exactly how much you're paying for the ride. You'll have to pay a bit extra if you're there at night. Two zones separate the airport in Las Palmas from Maspalomas, making a taxi from one zone more expensive than from the other.

At the airport arrivals gate,  the taxi line that is more than a mile long might ruin your holiday. Therefore, to ensure a hassle-free journey, it is advisable to book a private transfer prior to your arrival. This will ensure a smooth journey and allow you to spend more time seeing the city.

There are several advantages to using private transfer services, such as getting an opportunity to travel in your personalised car. CAR

It's not quite enjoyable to drive here because of the heavy traffic during workdays and in several business areas. Even experienced drivers may be baffled by the city's non-rectilinear roadway layout. In most instances, parking is also incredibly expensive. Some shopping malls offer free parking for a limited period of time (e.g. up to three hours), and receipts from the stores can be used to pay for the stay if you need or intend to shop. Fuel costs are substantially lower in the city, toll roads are nonexistent, and the city's main thoroughfares are well-marked. We see a lot of police traffic enforcement with photo radar cameras. Illegal parking should be avoided at all costs. Local vehicles are seldom impounded or ticketed for transgressions such as unauthorized parking or driving without a license. Tourist vehicles are virtually always subjected to strict enforcement of all applicable traffic laws. If no one is helping at the scene of an accident in Spain, you must pull over and aid.
